I am working on it! In a nutshell, the route will be an anti-clockwise loop leaving and finishing in Cobham with the following highlights:
- Wisley Common
- Wey River and Basingstoke Canal
- MoD land * near Deepcut (Porridge Hill) depending on opening times
- Blackwater Trail near Farnborough
- Minley and Yateley Heath
- Aldershot
- Hanckley Common
- Devil’s punch bowl
- Chiddingfold- Dunsfold
- Cranleigh
- Downs Link to Christ’s Hospital / Horsham
- Crawley – Godstone via “Avenue Verte”
- “Happy Valley” – Netherne-on-the-Hill
- Reigate Hill/ Box Hill
- Ranmore Common -Great Bookham Common
- Cobham
We will have a very early start around 4 a.m. and we anticipate the ride to finish in the evening. We expect to do 2/3 of the riding, around 130 km, by lunch time so the afternoon can be a bit more relaxed. A support car will be following the riders and meet them at pre-arranged locations for some refuelling / mechanical support. However, depending on the number of riders, the support car may not be able to support all riders and we expect all riders to know how to deal with punctures, mechanicals, etc.
And, before you ask, the route although not overly technical, is not suited for gravel or cross-bikes. Hard tail or full suspension only as the route will incorporate a couple of more technical trails.
This is not a race, more like an off-road sportive. The plan is to ride in 2 or 3 groups of different levels/ speed. If you ride fairly regularly off-road for a few hours at a time, the route will be manageable with some training over the winter and spring.
